Here's what  the U.S.  Resort and Cottage Registry has to say about the Minocqua area:
Minocqua has the charm and appeal of a small town, but offers exciting, fun activities of a much larger tourist destination. The area is breathtaking beyond imagination.

Called the "Island City," Minocqua is in the Lakeland or Northwoods area which has more than 3,200 lakes in Oneida and Vilas Counties.  It ranks as having one of the largest concentrations of fresh water bodies in the world.

The area has excellent fishing and boating in the summer, and great cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter.  Surrounding Minocqua are state forest lands.

Wildlife abounds, and the unique biosphere has a serene ambience.  One can take advantage of as much solitude or community as one wants. Come on up.
